The Senate is currently debating the bill and it may be sent to President Biden\u2019s desk for his signature by mid-March. Like with the CARES and the Relief and Recovery Acts, schools will receive the money through the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (<a href=\"https:\/\/oese.ed.gov\/offices\/education-stabilization-fund\/elementary-secondary-school-emergency-relief-fund\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ESSER<\/a>) Fund.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of 2020, the US Congress reached an agreement on a relief package in the amount of approximately $900 billion concerning the COVID-19 pandemic. For education specifically, the US Department of Education will receive approximately $82 billion for the Education Stabilization Fund for three purposes:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-20723 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vedamo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Federal-government-funding-for-schools-750x418.png\" alt=\"Federal-government funding for schools\" width=\"750\" height=\"418\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vedamo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Federal-government-funding-for-schools-750x418.png 750w, https:\/\/www.vedamo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Federal-government-funding-for-schools-300x167.png 300w, https:\/\/www.vedamo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Federal-government-funding-for-schools-768x428.png 768w, https:\/\/www.vedamo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Federal-government-funding-for-schools-50x28.png 50w, https:\/\/www.vedamo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Federal-government-funding-for-schools-920x513.png 920w, https:\/\/www.vedamo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Federal-government-funding-for-schools-600x335.png 600w, https:\/\/www.vedamo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Federal-government-funding-for-schools-320x179.png 320w, https:\/\/www.vedamo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Federal-government-funding-for-schools.png 950w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$22.7 billion will go towards Higher Education<\/li>\n<li>$4.1 billion \u2013 Governor\u2019s Emergency Education Relief Fund<\/li>\n<li>$54.3 billion \u2013 Elementary and Secondary Schools Emergency Relief (ESSER)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>School districts will receive ESSER funding from their State Education Agency (SAE). The allocation is based on each school district\u2019s eligibility for Title I, Part A funding (See the <a href=\"https:\/\/oese.ed.gov\/files\/2021\/01\/Final_ESSERII_Methodology_Table_1.5.21.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ESSER II Methodology and Allocation Table)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>State Education Agencies (SEAs) are not required to submit an additional application to receive their ESSER II award. States with a previously approved CARES Act application will receive funding from the U.S. Department of Education (USDE). Funds will be allocated to states using this formula: 60% based on the relative size of the population in the 5-24-year-old age group and 40% based on the relative number of children in the 5-17-year-old age group. SEAs will identify the K-12 institutions that have been most significantly impacted by the emergency.<\/p>\n<p><em>This funding needs to be used by September 2023.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The money may be invested in technology infrastructure and professional development in order to provide high quality, accessible, distance education or remote learning.
